KEN KAIZU 海津 賢

Composer / Alexander Technique Teacher

Ken Kaizu

Composer, arranger, keyboard player, producer, sound designer, and recording engineer. Certified teacher of the Alexander Technique — STAT (Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique, UK).

Inspired as a child by the film music of Charlie Chaplin, the songs of Salvatore Adamo, and the piano works of Chopin, he began playing piano at a young age. He later took up trombone, wind ensemble, synthesizers, composition, and the 13-string koto.

His work spans commercial music, television, film, animation, J-Pop, theater, corporate productions, and exhibitions — both in Japan and internationally. He composed the soundtrack for The Birth of Saké (directed by Erik Shirai), which premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival with a Best Documentary Director Special Jury Mention Award and went on to receive over ten awards worldwide.

A sudden hearing loss led him to reconsider how he used his body and how he approached things in life. This brought him to the Alexander Technique. After private lessons, he enrolled in the Body Chance Pro Course, then graduated from the Tokyo School of the Alexander Technique and became a STAT-certified teacher.

Following his graduation, he traveled abroad regularly to continue his studies. He attended Ilana Machover's teacher training course in London as a graduate student. In 2018 he began studying under Yehuda Kuperman in Israel, who awarded him a certificate of completion in 2019. He continues to travel and study with Yehuda to this day.

He has studied music workshop facilitation with Mike Spencer (former violinist of the London Symphony Orchestra and former Head of Education at the Royal Opera House) and with Casa da Música in Portugal, co-leading family music workshops at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. He has also co-led composition and programming workshops with Dr. Harada, creator of the visual programming language Viscuit.
